The Jump Cats, Melbourne’s jump blues dance sensation, play Martha Salt Music Saturday 21st August 2021.
The Jump Cats have got a bad reputation for being the best jump blues/swing outfit in town. They play an up-tempo style of blues that was popular in the 1940s and was a precursor of rhythm and blues and rock and roll. They have a large following that attracts blues, swing and rock’n’roll crowds to their gigs where they lay down those blues driven tunes that everyone loves.
Headed up by Chris ‘Stibbo’ Hanger, he’s THAT guy, when you hear him grind out the blues. Stibbo first came to attention in the Melbourne blues scene when he fronted blues jams and blew the crowd away. A natural voice and sharp harp player, Chris had the odds all in his favour. He now fronts the Jump Cats, with a stitched tight rhythm section and everybody’s swing man, Mark ‘Harpo’ on the guitar.
