The Checkerboard Lounge, Melbourne’s legendary roots, soul blues institution, play Martha Salt Music Saturday 28th August 2021.
Checkerboard Lounge has become a cult-like underground institution over the past 30 years. The brainchild of renowned singer and drummer Carl Pannuzzo, the current band includes masterful guitar work from Shannon Bourne, pulsating Hammond organ from Tim Neal & sweet down bass lines from Amos Sheehan. They breath fire, virtuosity and improvisation into classic soul and blues originals. This is dynamic world class musicianship full of passion that must be heard live.
The band members have played with a who’s who of Australian musicians, including Russell Morris, Chris Wilson, Tex Perkins (Cruel Sea), Broderick Smith (Dingoes), Jeff Lang, and Fiona Boyes. Over the years they have inspired the development of some of Australia’s finest musicians and bands (Powderfinger, Dirty Three, Clare Bowditch, Jet, Spoonful/Rocket Science, Kylie Auldist to name a few).
The band were semi-finalists in the 2020 International Blues Challenge in Memphis Tennessee, where they also recorded a new album at the famed SUN Studio.
